The Gymnastic Club has always enjoyed
a wide and varied programme. As early as December
1998 the boys started training for the Nationals
scheduledfor July 1999.
1999 saw Mr Lee Lye Hin, a former Malaysian
State gymnast taking over as the teacher-in-charge
of the SJI gymnatics club. We bid farewell to
Mr Anthony Khoo as he takes up other duties in
the school.
The members of the club trained very
hard for the National Competition, which was
held in July. We managed to send in full B
and C teams for the trampoline and compulsory
events.
In the compulsory event, our B team came
in fourth this year. Chung Kai Fei from 3a7 lost
by 0.4 points on the floor event and came in
fourth. Benny from 3a2 missed the Bronze medal
by 0.1 in the vaulting event. However the boys
gained good experience, especially since my
gymnast were competing for the first time.
The youngest member, Tan Zhiqing, who was very
keen and delicated, participated in the competition
after only six months of training.
On 5th August, we bade farewell to the
senoirs as they ended their term to prepare for
the O? level Examinations. The new committee for
1999 comprises:
Captain Quek Shiwei Benny
Vice Captain Kong Kian Haw
Secretary Mohammed Mirza B Abdul Amir
Treasurer Chong Jin Wei Martin
The training for the next competition has
already begun and we look forward to the New Year
to bring in some medals again especailly for our
B division team.
